AMERICA-A HORSE WITH NO NAME

America - A Horse With No Name - My Beat Club
Sometimes referred to Neil Young, the song "A Horse With No Name" is the first single and the biggest hit for folk rock band America. Originally named "Desert Song" and often ridiculed for the banal lyrics ("The heat was hot" etc.) the song was often seen as a drug reference - because "horse" is a common slang term for heroin. Dewey Bunnell, songwriter and guitar player of the band, said that the hot and dry desert of his childhood days - his family lived in the near of an Air Force Base in Santa Barbara, CA - inspired him to write the oddly lyrics of the song.
