The Creation - Painter Man - My Beat Club
Performed at Beat Club! In sound nearly similar to The Who and The Kinks, the English beat/ mod band The Creation is best known for their song "Painter Man". The song was more successful in the German charts (# 8) than in England – anyway, it reached the British Top 40 – and is famous for two things: Guitarist Eddy Philips played his instrument with a violin bow during the second half of the song – long before Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin used this technique with more sensation. And in 1979 the German disco group Boney M. covered the song with a little more success in England: # 10 in the UK charts. Also, the band featured two well known musicians: Bass guitar player Kim Gardner (of Ashton, Gardner & Dyke) and – for a short time – Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood! But Wood left soon and joined with Rod Stewart the former Small Faces – now only called: Faces
