Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Buddha - My Beat Club
The “Earth Band” of South African born keyboard player Manfred Mann is something different than the 60s pop band “Manfred Mann”. While the parent band was a classic beat band with three-minute sing along pop songs (Ha! Ha! Said The Clown, The Mighty Quinn etc.), the Earth Band shows Mann’s preference for progressive and jazz-influenced music styles. With the Mini Moog synthesizer Manfred Mann also used his soon-to-come trademark instrument for the first time. The song “Buddha”, a seven minute tune, is part of the band’s third album “Messin’”, released in 1973. Like many other albums of the band it contains a mixture of original tunes and cover versions. One of the covers is the song “Get Your Rocks Of” by Bob Dylan and was later used as the title for the US release of the album.
